Transitional Housing is essential if we're serious about ending Flushing's housing crisis
In Community Board 7, more than 20,000 Asian families are living below the poverty line. They are doubled and tripled up with relatives, in basement apartments, unstably housed and just a paycheck away from losing shelter. The transitional housing at Magnolia Gardens will not only give them a safe and secure private apartment, but also services to help them find a job, stabilize their finances and create a pathway to permanent affordable housing.

Every parent wants the best for their children. We hope they will fulfill their dreams and aspirations and lead happy lives. But for many kids in our community, there’s a hard truth. Last year, 1,877 students in District 25, which includes Flushing, were in temporary housing, living doubled up with friends or relatives, in a shelter or on the street.
