Innovation in the realm of computers is advancing rapidly, requiring the development of new digital skill sets. Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE) will begin offering an 8-week computer course for adults and retirees in late November at our One Flushing location, which will train participants in the fundamentals of computer and phone operations as well as identity theft prevention. Enrollment is open to all regardless of prior experience with computers.

Designed by students in our youth program for an adult and older adult audience, this course will prioritize accessibility of learning. Lessons will be conducted in Chinese or Spanish and taught by 15 local students, fostering engagement between our high school-aged youth and course participants while bringing our community together through intergenerational support. Classes will be held from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM on a weekly basis beginning on November 28th over the course of 8 weeks. Dinner will be provided at no cost following each class.

Topics covered in this course will include essential computer and phone uses, including picture taking and sharing; document and presentation creation and editing; video calling and emailing, connecting participants with distant relatives and friends; and cyber safety.

The course is currently scheduled across the following dates: November 28th; December 5th, 12th, and 19th; and January 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th.
