Overview
Asian Americans for Equality, Inc. (AAFE) will convene the fourth community development conference in New York to examine issues facing the fastest growing racial group in the nation and in our city. The conference will be held on Monday, May 9, 2011 at New York University’s Kimmel Center, located at 60 Washington Square South in New York City.
This day-long summit will convene over 300 leaders from housing and community-based organizations, corporations, foundations, government agencies, academic institutions, as well as local, state, and national elected offices that will examine issues facing all low-income and immigrant communities. It will also highlight the response from community leaders and celebrate the growing strength of the Asian American community.
The conference will feature discussions and workshops to examine a wide range of community development concerns, such as:
- Who are New York City’s One Million Asian Americans?
- What is the electoral impact of the growing community?
- How can we build partnerships among government agencies, the private sector, and local Asian Pacific American social and civic organizations?
Conference Goals
- Provide a platform and network to outreach, learn and exchange information, resources, and experiences about trends, needs and contributions of Asian Pacific American and immigrant communities;
- Identify emerging issues, engender policy discussion, and develop new strategies and advocacy agenda in addressing, servicing and impacting Asian Pacific American and immigrant New Yorkers;
- Build new and strengthen existing partnerships with elected officials, community organizations, government agencies; foundations, corporations, educational and research institutions; and national intermediaries;
- Enhance individual skills and strengthen organizational capacity in community development.
